Month in Review – June 2020
Welcome to my first Month in Review! Each month I plan on posting a brief recap of what I worked on over the past month, as well as some throwback drawings. Make sure you subscribe to my newsletter below so you don’t miss out on future artwork, updates or promotions.
Big Ed
I recently joined TikTok as a way to help promote my artwork, and have seen quite a few clips of Big Ed from 90 Day Finance. Although I’ve never watched the show, that face is too good to pass up. I mean, are these even really caricatures?
Adobe Stock Drawings
One of my new favorite things to do is browse through Adobe Stock’s huge collection of images and pick some random faces to draw. The goofier the expression the better! I have many rough sketches that I’m hoping to polish up soon, so stay tuned. Below are the two drawings I ended up finishing this month.
Never Stop Smiling
Now this looks like a couple that knows the formula for keeping marriage healthy and strong! Drawn from my imagination, inked traditionally and colored digitally.
Thank You Teachers!
A drawing I did of my oldest son’s fourth grade teacher. This was done as a token of my appreciation for being great all year long, but especially while helping us get through homeschooling during lockdown. And that was no easy feat! Getting accustomed to working from home full-time and helping with schoolwork was stressful and exhausting to say the least. I made sure to make time to do a drawing for him, and went old-school for this one using pencil and paper.
Throwback Artwork
I was recently contacted by the creators of a mockumentory series called WHEN-ESOTA, centered around the heartbreak and misery of Minnesota sports, to use my drawing of the Vikings Love Boat scandal for an upcoming episode. I said heck yeah! This was done many years ago, but I still really like the end result. Below is that illustration, along with some other Vikings related caricatures I’ve done throughout the years.
Post-It Doodles
Finally, I’d be remiss if I forgot to mention that June 23rd marked six months of posting one drawing each day to my @idoodlefaces Instagram account. It’s been a fun ride thus far and I’m just getting started! These are so fun to do, and it’s really cool that this little niche seems to be resonating with people. Here are a few of my favorites so far.
I took a couple of them into Procreate to use for coloring practice:
That’s all for now. See you next month!
